MANHEIM, Pa. – With two individuals ranked in their respective weight class, the Fort Hays State wrestling team was ranked 17th in the latest edition of the NWCA Division II Coaches Poll, released Friday (Feb. 5) by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Tigers earned 22 points in the voting process.
After an 8-1 start to the season, sophomore Mason Turner maintained his spot as the second-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds. Also 8-1 to start the year, senior A.J. Cooper moved up one spot to eighth in the 285-pound listing.
Turner has four wins via pin and three victories via technical fall this year, ranking in the top 10 nationally in both categories. Cooper is tied with Turner with a team-high four pins.
The poll is a tournament power index ranking, meaning point totals are broken down by individual rankings and are not based on a team’s dual strength.
The Tigers, 3-6 in duals this season and 2-0 in conference action, are next scheduled to compete next Friday (Feb. 11) on the road against No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney beginning at 6 p.m
