Hays High girls beat Pratt

By JAYCEE DALE

The Hays High School girls’ basketball team got its second win in the last three games after a 52-40 victory Tuesday night against Pratt.

The Indians, coming off a fifth-place finish at the Orange and Black Classic in Colby last weekend, moved out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter before settling for a 19-11 advantage at the buzzer.

Hays High held the Greenbacks to only seven points in the second quarter, maintaining the lead at the break, 27-18.

Pratt was hot from long range in the third quarter and was able to tie the game at 35. But HHS never let Pratt take the lead, going into the fourth quarter with a 41-35 lead.

Pratt never threatened the Indians in the fourth quarter as HHS won its fourth game of the year.

Morgan Engel led the Indians with 22 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
