Muslim Student Association hosts first organization meeting

FHSU’s Muslim Student Association met for the first time on Tuesday evening, March 10. Bader Abukhodair and Katie Abukhodair, the coordinators for the association, said the goal of this first meeting was to elect positions and determine new member responsibilities.

Currently, Badar and Katie are working on reaching out to more students who may be interested in being involved with the organization.

“So far, we plan on doing some cultural things at local events,” Katie Abukhodair said.

According to Badar, the first meeting was successful even though there is still work to be done.

“We’re still figuring out the details,” Bader Abukhodair said. “We might adjust the time we have meetings, and we are working on planning future events.”

Sabaha Hassen, who was elected vice-president of the Muslim Student Association, said students wanting to join the organization can find information about meetings on TigerLink.

“All of the information on there will be updated regularly,” Hassen said. “So anything you need to know about times and locations of meetings or events we may be doing can be found on there.”

The tentative activities for the group include tabling at the Union, a Hijab try-on event, an Islam awareness event, a Henna night, and an “Ask a Muslim” meeting for individuals interested in learning more about the organization.

Yabinta Darbo was elected president of the club.

“We’re planning on doing more events that make people want to be involved,” Darbo said. “We’d love for more students to become interested in our organization and possibly join.”
