HHS girls struggle against Dodge City

By JAYCEE DALE

Coming off a big win against Abilene a night earlier, the Hays High School girls’ basketball team struggled to keep that momentum going Friday night against Dodge City.

The Red Demons were able to claim a 60-31 win in WAC play.

Hays high started out with lockdown defense on Dodge City, keeping it a close first quarter. The Indians went into the second period only trailing 17-13.

But the Indian defense struggled to slow down Dodge City, and the Red Demons stretched the lead to 16 at halftime, 31-15.

Baskets were hard to come by for HHS in the third quarter, and Dodge City stretched its lead. The Red Demons moved out to a 46-21 margin entering the final period.

Dodge City stayed strong in the fourth quarter, spoiling Hays High’s Senior Night by taking the 29-point victory.

The Indians (6-14) earned the No. 15 seed in the Class 5A West sub-state bracket and will play at No. 2 seed Andover Central (19-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
