Tigers in Service hosted a ‘Jana’s Jewelry’ event Friday, Feb. 21 at Fort Hays State University. The event allowed volunteers to hand-make bracelets for upcoming Jana’s Campaign events.
“The cards and bracelets are given out to kids at the schools Jana’s Campaign speaks at,” Marisa Carman, Student Director for Tigers in Service said. “They are used as a symbol for understanding, so the person you give them to knows they can trust you and that you know what they are going through and will be there for them.”
Jana’s Campaign is a national education and violence prevention organization aiming to reduce gender and relationship violence. The organization was formed in honor of the late Jana Mackey, who was taken from the world July 3, 2008, at the hands of a former boyfriend.
The organization works with secondary schools, colleges and universities, and community-based organizations and agencies, to provide specialized prevention strategies aimed to prevent violence, build healthy relationships, and create new social norms.
