The Hays High School girls’ basketball team hosted Western Athletic Conference foe Garden City on Friday night at the HHS gym.
The Buffaloes proved to be too much in the end, taking a 54-38 win.
The Indians started out close against Garden City, forcing a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter.
Garden City was only able to inch ahead in the second eight minutes of play, eventually leading 24-22 at halftime.
But the Buffaloes took control after the break, outscoring the Indians to take a 40-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Garden City pushed the lead to 20 in the last minutes of the game in an intense battle. The Buffaloes were given a technical foul, giving the Indians a chance to get within 10.
Hays High would eventually trim the margin to 13 with 1:30 left in the game.
Tasiah Nunnery led the Indians for the second game in a row with 15 points. Aleyia Ruder followed with 13 points.
