Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball was back at Gross Memorial Coliseum against Central Oklahoma on Saturday. The Tigers were searching for another MIAA win after their victory earlier this week against Newman (78-58). The Tigers fell behind and lost to UCO 77-66.
The Tigers stayed on top early, ending the first quarter 12-11. Fort Hays struggled for points in the second quarter and fell behind 34-29.
“We weren’t knocking down shots, so we just had to focus on defense,” senior guard Taylor Rolfs said. “We just had to tell ourselves to keep shooting and hope that they fall eventually.”
In the first half, FHSU’s lead scorer was Jaden Hobbs with nine points, she also added two rebounds and one assist. Cydney Bergmann was 3-3 on free throws, with seven points, two rebounds, and one steal.
Fort Hays could not keep up with the Bronchos five 3-pointers and ended the third quarter 53-46.
“This was a tough game for us, we just could not knock down shots that we needed,” Head Coach Tony Hobson said. “We really just need to focus up on this next game and start making those shots.”
Hobbs continued her early-scoring success and ended the game with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Taylor Rolfs ended the afternoon with 14 points, three rebounds, four assists, one block, and two steals.
“We are really just taking it game by game, but tonight our defense wasn’t bad we just have to get the ball in the hole,” Rolfs said.
The Tigers will be on the road next Thursday, February 13 against MIAA leading Central Missouri. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
