The Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball team took care of Newman on Thursday night, winning by a score of 79-72. This was the Tigers’ third consecutive victory, and tenth overall on the season. A win on Saturday would put Fort Hays at .500. They are now 3-9 overall in the MIAA.

Newton gained a stronger head start to the contest. However, the Tigers were able to find their footing to take the lead late in the first half. FHSU once went on a 12-0 run to gain momentum. Going into the halftime break, it was 38-32 in favor of the Tigers.

Both teams traded leads in what was an exciting, back and forth second half. Sophomore guard Nyjee Wright went wild from three-point range. One late three-ball, in particular, put the Tigers up by four with a minute to go. Wright’s four assists led the team. Furthermore, he had a career-high 26 points. Aaron Nicholson finished with 15 points for Fort Hays.

With a loss, Newton drops to 8-15 season with a 2-12 mark in the MIAA. Marshawn Blackmon was the Jets leading point-getter, with 21 points.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, February 8th. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. versus Central Oklahoma.
