The Hays High School boys’ basketball team came back from Christmas break with a pair of victories last week.
On Tuesday, the Indians blew out Pratt on the road. After winter weather forced the postponement of Friday’s Western Athletic Conference opener with Liberal to be moved to Saturday, the Indians showed no signs of a letdown with a 57-44 win.
The Indians started out Saturday’s game against theRedskins and then pulled away late in the first quarter to lead 13-5.
It turned to a close game in the second quarter. But the Indians went into the locker room with a 27-20 lead.
Hays High pulled away in the third quarter. Even a technical assessed to an HHS player didn’t stop the Indians from keeping the lead. The Indians went into the fourth quarter with a 46-32 advantage.
Liberal got within nine points in the fourth, but Hays High was able to finish strong for the conference victory.
Sophomore Jace Linenberger led the Indians with 18 points, and TJ Nunnery followed with 14 points.
Hays High will host WAC rival Great Bend on Tuesday.
