Thanks to three big wins, including a win over sixth-ranked Saint Anselm, the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team jumped three spots to No. 13 in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll, released Tuesday (Jan. 7). Ballots were submitted before the Tigers’ 75-74 win over Pittsburg State on Monday.
The Tigers gained 106 points in the voting process, up to 307 points. FHSU is five points behind 12th-ranked Adelphi and 37 points clear of No. 14 Sioux Falls.
This is the first time the Tigers have been ranked 13th in the national coaches poll, leaving just four slots in which the Tigers have never been ranked (No. 14, No. 15, No. 20, No. 22).
The Tigers are once again the top-ranked MIAA team, with Emporia State following in the coaches poll at No. 16. The Hornets are the lone league program listed in this week’s D2SIDA Media Poll, coming in 18th.
Fort Hays State returns to action Thursday (Jan. 9) when the Tigers travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to take on Northeastern State. First tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
