After a blowout win in its only action last week, the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team slid up three spots to 16th in the WBCA Division II Coaches Poll, announced Tuesday (Dec. 17).
It is the second time the Tigers have been ranked 16th in the coaches poll in program history. FHSU entered the 2016 NCAA DII Championship Tournament ranked in the same spot. The Tigers are 0-1 all-time when ranked 16th in the coaches poll.
The Tigers have been listed in all six coaches polls released this season. Fort Hays State opened the year ranked No. 7 in the preseason poll before spending three weeks ranked fifth. The Tigers moved to No. 19 last week before climbing three spots to No. 16 this week.
Fort Hays State is the top-ranked team out of three MIAA programs represented in this week’s the national polls. Emporia State sits at 20th in the coaches poll with Central Oklahoma occupying the 17th spot in the D2SIDA media poll.
The Tigers are set for their first top-25 matchup of the season Thursday when they take on No. 6 Saint Anselm to wrap up the 2019 Cruzin Classic. The Tigers are 10-12 in top-25 clashes under head coach Tony Hobson.
