PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Hays State men’s track and field team opened the indoor season Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Crimson and Gold Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University. Three Tigers kicked off the season with NCAA Division II provisional performances.
Ryan Stanley started where he left off last season when he finished fourth at the outdoor national championships, recording a provisional mark in the pole vault after clearing the 16-6 bar.
Freshman Xavier Robinson cleared an NCAA provisional mark in his first collegiate competition, clearing a distance of 23-5.5 to place third in the long jump.
Lucas Broxterman placed his name on the NCAA provisional list after soaring over the 6-8.25 bar in the high jump, a new personal-best indoors. The junior placed fifth in the event.
Aaron Mangan was just off the provisional pace in the 800m run, placing third in a time of 1:53.92.
Malcom Gardner broke his own school record in the 300m dash, finishing third in the 300m dash after crossing the line in 34.64. Brayden Soza (35.16, fifth) and Philip Landrum (35.52, seventh) finished just behind Gardner.
Caleb Carrasco finished fifth in the one-mile run, completing the race in 4:19.35.
Mark Faber finished in a tie for eighth after clearing the 15-6.25 bar in the pole vault.
GOLDEN, Colo. – The Fort Hays State multi-athletes opened the season two days earlier than the rest of the squad, traveling to compete in the Mines Alumni Classic and Multi (Dec. 5-6). Jack Pakkebier was the top finisher for the Tigers in the heptathlon, compiling 4,029 points across the seven events.
