Last Thursday, the banquet organized by the Great American Conference was held at our university to celebrate the soccer tournament which our team is hosting. This event served to generate a light, sporty, and special atmosphere prior to the competition.
After dinner, an awards ceremony was held where the individual performance of both players and coaches were recognized.
The Tigers were yet again protagonists in an awards ceremony. Already last season there were a large number of players who were part of these awards and this year was not going to be less. Alec Bevis was named Freshman Of The Year for his constant and good performances as a central defender throughout the season. Another fortunate person on Thursday night was Sergio Villalba, who was not only recognized as the best defensive player of the year, but was also included in the First All-Conference Team. His good work in both attack and defense helps his essential role in the team have made Sergio a versatile and special player.
Another player who has won prizes twice and is already used to receiving awards, goes by the name of Santiago Agudelo. The senior from Frisco, Texas has been chosen as the best offensive player of the year with a total of 14 goals and 7 assists under his belt, and also selected in the First All-Conference Team as a forward.
Rogelio Lopez, who won Freshman of the Year in 2018, also managed to be part of the First All-GAC Team as a midfielder.
Jacob Basden received honorable mentions thanks to his good performances during the year and being a fundamental part of the starting of the tigers. Moritz Walther, the team captain, was selected as GAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete thanks to his excellent performance at school with a GPA of 3.88. In addition to winning this award, he was selected along with Mauricio Etcheverry in the Second All-GAC Team.
The last but not the least is the Tigers Coach Gerry Clearry who had the honor to win in his very first year the GAC Coach of the Year Award.
