Homecoming Candidate Profile: Conrad Vajnar

STORY BY LAURA KRUG

Conrad Vajnar was raised on his family farm 15 miles southwest of Hays near Antonino and attended Hays High School. He is currently a junior majoring in Accounting and is minoring in Criminal Justice. His future plans include a career in law enforcement to serve the community.

Vajnar was nominated by the Criminal Justice Club.

“This club has made a big difference in my life and it was great to give back and make a difference in their lives as well,” he said.

“I came to Fort Hays originally as a Criminal Justice major and they have a great program,” Vajnar said. “Plus it is affordable compared to other state schools, I knew I would get a high-quality education for the cost.”

As a candidate for the Criminal Justice Club, Conrad promotes the community initiatives he works on through his organization, including volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters and helping students meet law enforcement officers and other officials for career days. Community service is important to the Criminal Justice Club because programs that invest in communities can help prevent crime.

“This university has done a lot for me and I have given a lot back to the university; it’s an honor to be selected,” Vajnar said.

Homecoming offers a wide variety of activities for both candidates, students, and alumni to participate in. Vajnar’s favorite?

“The Oktoberfest! Going to eat good German food,” he said.

His favorite German food is beans and noodles.

Similarly, there are many parts of being an FHSU Tiger that he enjoys as well.

“I love the small atmosphere at FHSU where everyone knows each other in some way so that we are all connected,” Vajnar said.

During his time at FHSU, he has also been involved in Catholic Disciples, Honors College, Honors Society, Wrestling, Tiger Pals, Fort Hays Chapter of Knights of Columbus, and Everybody’s Business Living Learning Community.

Outside of FHSU, he enjoys helping out on the family farm with cattle.

Voting for the title of King and Queen will take place from 9:00 AM October 9th to noon October 11th on TigerLink or in Memorial Union from 11am to 1 PM on October 9th and 10th.
