The Fort Hays State University Tiger volleyball team hosted two games this weekend. The first game was against the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (10-3) on Friday, September 27, and the second game was against the Newman Jets (0-12) on Saturday, September 28. The Tigers are now 5-7 overall and 2-2 in MIAA play after splitting with the Bronchos and Jets.
On Friday the Tigers lost to the Bronchos 3-1. In the first set Central Oklahoma beat FHSU 25-20. Fort Hays State came out on top in the second set with five kills from Isabelle Reynods (13), two service aces and a solo block from Tatum Bartels (11) and to finish off the game a service ace from Abbie Hayes (43) putting the Tigers at the top, 25-20. The Tigers could not keep up and the Bronchos offence kicked it into high gear winning the third and fourth sets, 25-19 and 25-11.
On Saturday the Tigers swept the court and beat the Jets 3-0. In the first and second set FHSU beat Newman 25-14. FHSU did not record an error in the first set, totaling 10 kills on 25 swings. Delaney Humm (10) scored seven kills putting up as many points as the Jets combined. In the third and final set of the night the Tigers beat the Jets 25-19.
Humm had a double-double, her sixth of the season, with a team high of 14 kills and 10 digs. Reynolds had 10 kills behind Humm. Tatum Bartels did not have an error with 7 kills on 8 swings, a solo block, and a service ace.
Fort Hays State had a season high, .355 attack percentage. The Tigers picked up their second conference win, matching their total from the last two seasons.
The Tigers will hit the road for four matches starting next week. Their first game on the road will be on Tuesday, October 1st against Emporia State at 6 p.m.
