On September 18th at 5:30 pm, students who loved the outdoors, and company by a lit fire while eating sweet treats, came to the Circle K S’mores event. Students, staff, and faculty gathered at Frontier Park and talked with each other about the importance of Circle K and the importance of S’mores!

Circle K is an organization whose main focus is to better the world for the future, and to better the people for the future. The organization’s objectives include: serve on the campus and in the community, promote good fellowship and high scholarship, and afford useful training in the social graces and personality development.

Circle K also promotes the following ideas: give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life provided through Circle K clubs a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities. They prioritize community service, and a place for fellow patrons to create friendships and everlasting impacts on the future. More can be seen on their TigerLink page.

Both current members and future potential members of Circle K gathered around the fire and talked about their past experiences as they made their S’mores. One ingredient they did not know they were putting in was the idea of a better future. Both the President, Jaqueline Rodrigues-Nunez, and treasurer, Lauren Whittington, agreed.

“Being a fellowship event, our s’mores event tonight allowed us to meet and get to know new CKI members and have a conversation,” Whittington said.

“We connected over s’mores and everyone learned what an amazing organization Circle K International is,” Rodrigues-Nunez said.

As Circle K’s mission says, their goals are to turn college students into responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service. The S’mores event was the first step towards those goals, and who is to say those will be the last. Circle K members and every FHSU student can take that first step towards a better future, some just may a bit of a push from Circle K, along with a tasty treat at the end!
