On September 14th from 3-5 pm, the Hays community gathered with their furry best friends at the Defiance Brewery Co. These friends and family get to spend time with their dogs while drinking and listening to live music from Laurel Dawn. Paws & Pints is what they’re calling it and the Humane Society Of The HighPlains is who’s it for.

The Humane Society shelters animals and keeps them safe. This safety includes: sheltering, educating, human-animal relations, cruelty reporting, and keeping the animals under control. Paws & Pints is a way for the Humane Society to bring awareness to the man’s best friend and show how Hays animal lovers cherish their pets.

Jessica Frieb, Assistant Manager of the Humane Society Of The HighPlains, expressed the need for these kinds of events.

“I’ve been doing this for 12 years, and we do it for the animals.” Frieb said, “Help raise awareness of adopting them, to find them a home, fundraising for their shelter and medical needs is a big part of this process”.

Defiance Brewing Co-hosted this event with smiles all around. Their friendly bartenders and variety of beers helped make it so everyone could enjoy the scenery and their furry friends around them.

Ross Karlin said the event was a great way for his dog to socialize with other four and two-legged friends.

“It’s great to let him out in public with other dogs, be more active, and around other people,” he said.

The Humane Society Of The HighPlains organizes this event to bring the Hays people closer to their companions. The atmosphere of friendly faces helped make this experience thrive, for both the staff, community, and pets.
