The FHSU Tiger volleyball team hosted the Friends University Falcons in their final exhibition match on Labor Day. They competed hard and played well, but the team was defeated, 3 sets to 1.

In the first game, the Falcons came out on top 25-22 and then followed suit with a  25-20 victory in the second game. The Tigers and the Falcons both fought hard during the first set. The Tigers came out on fire during the third set. They competed well and came out on top 25-20. During the last game of the night both teams battled hard, but the Falcons won 28-26.

Coach Wood-Atkins stated that “her team did not stick to the game plan that they had in mind, and that is why they did not come out on top.” She knows that they are young and still need some work.

“They will be working mostly on serving and playing off the dig during practice before their next game,” Wood-Atkins said.

Sophomore, Isabelle Reynolds (13), had a great night on Labor Day. She stated that “she would like to minimize her own errors and talk to her teammates more in order to improve her game.” She believes that “her team could improve on little things that can be easily fixed with a little more practice.” Reynolds said that “her team has a lot of potential with all of the new players and believes that they can do very well.”

The Tigers were defeated this time, but they still have a lot of spirit and are ready to compete again.

“The team has learned quite a lot after the first game, and they will be prepared for their next matches later in the week,” said Coach Wood-Atkins.

The volleyball team will be traveling to Chadron, Nebraska on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th to compete in the Eagle Classic. Tune in online to see how well the Tigers compete.
