The Kansas City Royals continue to soar past the Chicago White Sox, winning 7-5 in the third game of their series Wednesday. Danny Duffy provided a strong performance on the mound to give Kansas City its third consecutive win.
The Royals struck early, with two runs in the bottom of the first courtesy of a two-RBI single from Nicky Lopez and Jorge Soler. Duffy mowed through the Chicago offense, allowing only six hits in his six innings of work.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Royals added to their lead with another pair of singles from Soler and Lopez, alongside a walk to Hunter Dozier that scored one.
Duffy gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with a home run off the bat of Chicago’s Ryan Goins. But Duffy was able to work through the inning and finish a complete six innings before being replaced by Scott Barlow. On the day, Duffy allowed only two runs on six hits, with five strikeouts.
Barlow went 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed before being replaced by Jake Diekman, who threw two consecutive strikeouts to end the eighth inning.
In the final inning, the Royals subbed in closer Wily Peralta, who was able to secure two outs before running into trouble with a three-run homer from pinch-hitter AJ Reed. KC subbed in Ian Kennedy, who recorded the final out for his 15th save of the season. Peralta finished the day with three runs on two hits, with one walk and a strikeout.
The Royals secured their third consecutive series win against the Chicago White Sox.
