The Fort Hays State women’s tennis team started a two-match weekend at home on Friday as they played host to No. 24 Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats handed the Tigers a 7-0 loss on their home court to drop Fort Hays to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in MIAA play. Northwest Missouri State improved to 6-3 in conference action and 15-5 overall.
The Bearcats took over singles play, claiming all matches. Tania Teruel defeated Laura Jimenez-Lendinez in a 6-4, 6-2 match in the No. 1 position, while No. 2’s went to Irene Recuenco over Natalie Lubbers 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 3 position, Lauren Lindell was slipped up by Marta Ferrando in a 6-1, 6-3 decision, while Ellea Ediger suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Julia Aliseda at No. 4. In the No. 5 dual, Julie Rinderknech defeated FHSU’s Macy Moyers 6-3, 6-0, and Sara Grozdanovic earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Haley Weidemann in the No. 6 slot.
Doubles was the same for the Bearcats as they claimed all three matches. In No. 1 doubles, Ferrando and Terual earned a 6-4 win over Lindell and Lubbers. Ediger and Moyers suffered a 6-0 shutout loss to Aliseda and Recuenco in the No. 2 doubles slot. In the No. 3 doubles, Jimenez-Lendinez and Nicole Lubbers dropped a 6-0 loss to Rinderknech and Grozdanovic.
The Tigers wrap up regular season play on Saturday (April 13) as they host Senior Day against Missouri Western with first serve set for noon in Hays.
