Sigma Alpha helping flooding victims

The Fort Hays State University sorority Sigma Alpha is helping with the devastating flood relief efforts in Nebraska.

The agriculture-based sorority needs the help of the community to make the donation have an impact on all the farmers and ranchers in our neighboring state.

Sigma Alpha members have been hearing some people say they believe they can’t help since they are not farmers. The items needed everyone can purchase. The farmers not only need farm items, but they also need basic items.

The sorority members will be at the Hays Orscheln’s from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. If you can’t make it to that location during the drop-off hours, they also will be at Tractor Supply from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The members are accepting:

  • Shovels
  • Hammers
  • Spray bottles
  • Tarps
  • Fencing materials
  • 5-gallon buckets
  • Rubber gloves
  • Calf milk replacer
  • Livestock feed
  • Hay, straw and bedding (example: shavings)
  • Personal hygiene items
    • Soap, shampoo, conditioner
  • Bottled water
  • Sports drinks
  • Snacks
  • Pet food

Most of these items can be purchased at Orscheln’s and Tractor Supply.

If you can’t make either of those dates but would like to donate, contact Emily Bennigsdorf at (303) 868-6507 or email eabennigsdorf@mail.fhsu.edu to set up a time and location for pickup.
