Ball still alive for 2nd day of NCAA championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Fort Hays State wrestling competed in the first day of the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday (Mar. 8). No. 1 ranked Brandon Ball advanced to the second day of national and earned All-America status for the second time in his career by becoming one of the final eight wrestlers still alive in the 141-pound weight class.

Ball began his day with a 9-2 decision over Dylan Nace of East Stroudsburg in the pigtail match of the 141-pound weight class. He then defeated No. 11 ranked Angelo Robles of Indianapolis with a slim 1-0 decision in the round of 16. Ball earned All-America status by defeating No. 5 ranked Jared Donahue of Wheeling Jesuit with a 3-0 decision, earning a spot in the semifinals on Saturday (Mar. 9).

Ball is slated to battle against No. 4 ranked Isaiah Royal of Newberry in the semifinal match. This will be the first meeting between the two wrestlers in their careers.

Day two of the NCAA DII Championships begin on Saturday (Mar. 9) at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT).
