The suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old male has been apprehended.
Ryan Paul Thompson, 34, had been identified as a person involved in a physical altercation with the victim prior to the death in the 2700 block of Indian Trail on Wednesday night. He was arrested with the help of the Ellis Police Department, according to the Hays Police Department.
When police were called to the scene at 10:03 p.m. Wednesday for a domestic disturbance, they found the 26-year-old male had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from Hays PD.
The Ellis County Coroner’s Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit were notified of the death.
Thompson fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, and police continued to search for him. Thompson is described as a white male, 5-foot-11 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has hazel eyes and a bald head.
He was considered armed and dangerous.
Thompson recently was sentenced for an aggravated endangerment of a child charge in Russell County in December. He also was sentenced for possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or designated stimulants in 2017 for a crime in Ellis County. Thompson also was arrested twice for drug charges in Graham County in the past, as well as a burglary charge in Sedgwick County. He was currently on community corrections and had spent time in El Dorado Correctional Facility before being released in 2005.
