Wrestlers set to battle Jets

No. 10 ranked Fort Hays State wrestling gears up for their final MIAA dual of the season with a matchup against No. 18 Newman on Wednesday (Feb. 13). The Tigers will make the trek to Wichita, Kan. to battle the Jets from inside Fugate Gymnasium, beginning at 7 p.m.

FHSU’s projected lineup consists of two seniors, two juniors, four sophomores, three redshirt-freshmen, and one true freshman. Brandon Ball is the top-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, while Efe Osaghae sits at No. 4 in the 157-pound weight class. Newman has two wrestlers individually ranked as Kameron Frame sits at No. 8 in the 149-pound weight class and Tyler Mies is the No. 2 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds.

125 | True freshman Broderick Green is set to take the mat at this weight with a 9-19 overall record. Green is tied for first on the squad in pins (six).

133 | Either Wyatt Alvis or Braden Visnieski will take the mat in this bout. Alvis enters with three wins on the season, while Visnieski has two victories in limited action.

141 | No. 1 ranked Brandon Ball enters at 19-0 overall and 16-0 against Division II competition. Of his 19 wins, Ball have three falls, three major decisions and two technical falls.

149 | Senior Ryne Cokeley or redshirt-freshman Jonathan Ball will take the mat at this weight. Cokeley enters at 7-5 overall. Cokeley has two pins and one major decision. Ball sits at 19-9 on the year, while adding four falls, three technical falls and two major decisions to his credit.

157 | No. 4 ranked Efe Osaghae carries a 23-3 overall record with him into the dual. Osaghae is 17-2 against Division II opponents on the year. Of his 23 victories, he has seven technical falls, two falls and one major decision. He paces the squad in technical falls (seven) and ranks second in wins (23).

165 | Sophomore Marty Verhaeghe is set to take the mat in this class. Verhaeghe is 18-9 overall and 15-4 in Division II.

174 | Redshirt-freshman Aryus Jones gears up for the Tigers at this weight. Jones is coming off a big win on Sunday after defeating a two-time All-American (Zach Stodden, UNK) after moving up a weight class. Jones carries a 14-5 overall record with him into the dual. Jones is tied for fifth on the team in pins (four).

184 | Senior Micquille Robinson enters the dual a 32-8 record and is 12-6 in Division II foes. Robinson leads the team in wins (32) and major decisions (13), while also recording 14 decisions and two falls.

197 | Redshirt-freshman Ryan Tiers sits at 3-3 on the year with one pin and two decisions.

285 | Sophomore A.J. Cooper will take the mat for the Tigers in this bout. Cooper is 17-11 on the season. Cooper ranks in a tie for second on the team in major decisions (four) and a tie for third in falls (five).
