PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field program headed to Pittsburg for the Pittsburg State Invitational this Saturday (Jan. 26). On the day, the Tigers claimed numerous top-ten finishes, including one performance that captured a provisional standard and one first place finish.
Brett Meyer highlighted the day as he earned his second-straight provisional mark. In the 800-meters, Meyer finished second in the event with a time of 4:06.08, also a new personal record. The lone first place finish on the day for the Tigers went to Ryan Stanley who claimed the open pole vault event. Stanley won the event after reaching a height of 15 feet, 10 inches.
Other notable finishes on the men’s side include two top-ten finishes in the 5,000-meters. Peter Franklin claimed fourth in the event with a time of 15:46.96 while teammate Kaleb Crum took ninth place with his mark of 15:51.69. In the 3,000-meter, Justin Moore took fourth place following a navigation time of 8:52.06. In the mile, Seppe van’t Westende claimed 10th place with his time of 4:13.20.
The high jump for the men included two strong finishes. Kolt Newell earned fourth place with his jump of 6 feet, 8 inches with Lucas Broxterman coming in sixth place alongside his mark of 6 feet, f inches. Mark Faber narrowly missed a top-ten finish in the pole vault with his 11th place finish following a 14 feet, 6 inches height.
For the women, Mirena Goncalves led the way with a seventh place finish in the mile run following her time of 5:02.55. Yessenia Gonzales captured a ninth place finish in the 3,000-meters alongside a time of 10:15.66.
In the jumps for the women, four Tigers finished within the top-twenty in their events. Rohey Singhateh took 15th place in the long jump after a finish of 17 feet, 4 inches. Singhateh also finished in 16th in the triple jump while boasting a jump of 36 feet, 8 inches. Kayla Smith finished close behind her teammate following a 17th place finish in the triple jump with her distance of 36 feet, 4 inches. Summer Kragel added another 17th place finish for the Tigers following her 5 foot, 1 inch performance in the high jump.
The Tigers will hit the road to Nebraska next weekend, with two meets on the horizon. On Friday (Feb. 1), Fort Hays State will be represented at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb. Then, on Saturday (Feb. 2), some Tigers will compete in Kearney at the UNK Loper Invite.
