Despite dropping its first conference game of the season last week, the 17-1 Tigers quickly jumped back into first place in the conference standings at 8-1 in league play. 7-1 Washburn is a half-game behind the Tigers, with that one loss coming at the hands of FHSU last week.
Fort Hays State heads into the contest looking to extend an 18-game home winning streak, spanning back more than a year. The streak is the eighth-longest in Division II.
The Tigers lead in the all-time series against Northwest Missouri State 13-10, including an 8-2 edge at home. FHSU has controlled the series of late, winning nine of the last 10 contests. The Tigers have won eight-straight against the Bearcats at home, with the last loss coming in the 2006-07 season. Tony Hobson is 11-4 against NW Missouri, including a perfect 7-0 record inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.
Carly Heim recorded her only career double-double in last season’s 75-46 win over the Bearcats (1/20/18), totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win. The 10 rebounds remain her career-high. It was the largest margin of victory for either side in series history (29 points).
Coming off its third road conference win, Northwest Missouri State heads into the weekend 7-10 overall and 3-5 in MIAA play. The Bearcats have just as many true road wins (3-3) as they do home wins (3-5). NWMSU ranks 14th in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 59.7 points per contest. They lead the league in free throw shooting, knocking down 81.5 percent from the charity stripe. Last year’s co-MIAA Freshman of the Year Jaelyn Haggard leads the Bearcats with 12.9 points each night, ranking 12th in the conference.
