Tree-Lighting Ceremony

Fort Hays State University will kick-off the holiday season with the Annual Tree-Lighting Ceremony set to take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in front of Sheridan Hall. This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Tree-Lighting Ceremony, a tradition started by FHSU President Edward Hammond in 1987.

Santa Claus, with his sack of toys, will make an early stop in Hays to join in the festivities. Participants will be able to take hay rack rides and enjoy performances by the Dickens Carolers. If attendees get to feeling cold, there will be hot cocoa and cookies available in the Dreiling Lobby of Sheridan Hall.

At the ceremony, President Hammond will present welcoming remarks, and the winners of a coloring contest will be announced. The coloring contest participants are selected from the local elementary schools.

The event is sponsored by FHSU Greek Life, the International Student Services Office, Office of the President, the University Activities Board, FHSU Athletics and Wendy’s restaurants.
