The No. 16 ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team gears up for their first MIAA dual of the season this weekend when they take on Central Oklahoma (Dec. 7) before making their way to Newman for the Jet Invitational (Dec. 9). The dual with the Bronchos is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, whereas the Jet Invite will commence at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
The Tigers will have two seniors, three juniors, one sophomore, two redshirt-freshman and one true freshman hit the mat against the Bronchos.
In the 125-pound weight class, true freshman Broderick Green will take the mat. Green brings with him a 6-5 overall record and a 3-0 record against Division II competition this season.
The Tigers will have one of their juniors for the 133-pound weight class, Conrad Cole. Cole enters the weekend with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-2 clip against Division II opponents on the year.
No. 4 ranked Brandon Ball will handle the 141-pound weight class call for the Tigers. He has posted a perfect 8-0 mark on the season. Of his eight victories, he has two pins, two major decisions and one technical fall. Ball posted a 10-1 record in duals last season and has won the individual titles at the Swede Open and the Bob Smith Open so far this year.
In the 149-pound weight class, Jonathan Ball will take the mat for the Tigers. Ball carries an 11-4 overall record and a 4-2 clip against Division II foes this season. He has pinned three wrestlers and has recorded two technical falls and two major decisions so far. Ball captured a runner-up finish at the Bob Smith Open.
No. 4 ranked Efe Osaghae gets the nod for the Tigers in the 157-pound weight class. Osaghae is 11-2 on the season and is 11-1 against Division II competition. Osaghae paces the squad with five technical falls on the year.
The Tigers will have the other redshirt-freshman, Aryus Jones, in the 165-pound weight class. Jones ranks second on the team with 13 wins on the season. Of those 13 victories, Jones has pinned four opponents and picked up two technical fall along the way.
Senior Nick Meck will handle to duties for the Tigers in the 174-pound weight class. Meck is 5-3 on the young season and is coming off a runner-up finish at the Bob Smith Open.
In the 184-pound weight class, senior Micquille Robinson will take to the mat for the Tigers. Robinson paces the squad with 18 wins on the year. Robinson won the Dan Harris Open and the Swede Open early in the year.
Jordan Davis will take on the 197-pound weight class opponent. Davis has held steady so far with a 6-6 overall record.
To finish off the dual, AJ Cooper will take the mat in the 285-pound weight class. Cooper currently holds an 8-5 overall record.
On Sunday, the Tigers will have one senior, one junior, two sophomores, three redshirt-freshman and two true freshman for the Jet Invitational.
Broderick Green (125 pounds), Micquille Robinson (184 pounds) and AJ Cooper (285 pounds) will make their second appearance on the weekend.
Payton Sadowski will take the mat for the Tigers in the 133-pound weight class. Sadowski enters with a 2-6 overall record.
In the 141-pound weight class, Wyatt Alvis gets the nod for the Tigers. Alvis holds a 2-2 overall record in his junior season.
The Tigers will have redshirt-freshman Pedro Ordonez for the 149-pound weight class. Ordonez enters the weekend with a 5-3 overall record.
Conrad Vajnar will enter the 157-pound weight class with a 4-5 overall record this season.
Sophomore Marty Verhaeghe takes the mat for the Tigers in the 174-pound weight class. Verhaeghe holds a 10-6 overall record this season and is 8-2 against Division II opponents on the year.
Zeke Herrera holds a 2-2 record for the Tigers in the 197-pound weight class. Herrera is 2-1 against Division II foes this season.
