The Student Government Association at Fort Hays State University has partnered with the Hays Police Department to create the Party Pack Registration program.

The party pack program allows students who live off campus, specifically those who live between Fourth and 10th streets, to register their parties with SGA.

The registration allows students to give information about where the party is at, the time, their student ID and a secondary contact.

The information gets sent to Hays PD so in case of any noise complaints, they can call the number provided and let them know they have 15 minutes to either quiet down or leave before the police show up.

“The purpose of the program is to develop a safe, responsible atmosphere for our students. The Hays Police Department is well aware that there are parties in Hays, like all college towns,” said Jacki Dougherty, community relations director of SGA, “We want our students to save money and stress, and create a better relationship with the Hays Police Department. It is our intent, as the Student Government Association, to represent and enhance the experiences of all of our students, and we hope this program will continue to be a success moving forward.”

The party pack registration program allows students the opportunity to not be fined with the city ordinance, as well as keep the relationship between Hays PD and the students at a respectable level.

It also is an opportunity for students to save money, as fines for noise complaints can cost up to $500 by city ordinance.

SGA is in the process of educating students on the program available to them and recently released a public service announcement featuring former FHSU President Edward Hammond.
