HASTINGS, Neb. – The Fort Hays State women’s tennis team got the 2018 season off to a strong start as they capitalized on a 6-1 win on the road at Hastings College. The Tigers, now 1-0 on the early year, are coming off a previous season which concluded in 6-10 overall record. The Broncos start off 2018 now at 0-1 after suffering the loss to the Tigers.
The Broncos started off the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win by Kelsey Brown over Tiger Lauren Jimenez-Lendinez in the first completed singles match. However, the Tigers gained back the momentum, claiming the remaining singles. Natalie Lubbers went 6-2, 6-0 win over Kelsey Flaherty, while Ellea Ediger claimed the 6-0, 6-0 win over Megan Waterhouse. Lauren Lindell took her singles match over Megan Petr in a 6-2, 6-4 decision, with Nicole Lubbers going 6-0, 6-1 over Lyndsay Ruane. Haley Weidemann completed the singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Carolay Strehlow.
Doubles competition saw the duo of Nicole Lubbers and Jimenez-Lendinez defeating Brown and Fleharty in a 6-4 decision. Ediger and Weidemann, another Tiger partnership claimed a 6-0 advantage ove Strehlow and Ruane.
The Tigers next hit the road for two-consecutive Colorado matches next weekend. First, they will face off against Colorado Mesa on Friday (Sept. 14), followed by a Saturday battle against CSU-Pueblo (Sept. 15). Both matches will take place on the campus of CSU-Pueblo.
