FHSU’s Center for Civic Leadership to host several events in September

The seventh annual meal packaging event, Swipe Out Hunger, is just one of several events in September hosted by Fort Hays State University’s Center for Civic Leadership.

“Participants are hands-on volunteers that will truly help make a difference by packaging meals that will be sent to those in need both internationally and domestically,” said Jaylen Adams, Center for Civic Leadership project coordinator.
Swipe Out is also one of the events for the inaugural celebration of FHSU President Tisa Mason.
Other events taking place in September are listed chronologically.
Monday, Sept. 10:
Days of Service Cooking Event.
In connection with Remembrance Day, Tigers in Service will organize cooking events where students or student organizations can help to prepare breakfast for the first responders in Hays.
Tuesday, Sept. 11:
Deliver Food to First Responders.
8 a.m. – Meals that were prepared the night before will be delivered to the local first responders.
Remembrance Day: Memorial Union.
11 a.m. ­to 1 p.m. – Students will have the opportunity to show respect to the first responder that played a part in the events on 9/11. This virtual event will give students a chance to be more educated on the tragedy.
Wednesday, Sept. 12:
Voter Registration Drive: Memorial Union.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – FHSU’s American Democracy Project will have a booth to give students the opportunity to register to vote. They will provide ways for Kansas students and out-of-state students to register. To register online, students will need their driver’s license. Registration can be found at ksvotes.org.
Saturday, Sept. 15:
Swipe Out Hunger: Forsyth Library.
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ­– Swipe Out Hunger event. This meal packaging event, open to students and community members, will be held in conjunction with FHSU President inauguration. To register for Swipe Out, visit docs.google.com/forms/d/1iXi-UGJ4yWlnVqW5uT0P7DUYfbe9HeQLKUNBmMDrl1Y/edit#responses.
Monday, Sept. 17:
Constitution Day: Memorial Union.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Students will be able to learn more about the American Constitution and participate in activities surrounding the Constitution.
Volunteer Fair: Memorial Union.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Students will be able to sign up to get more information on service projects at FHSU. Information about other organizations in Ellis County that are in need of volunteers will also be provided.
Friday, Sept. 21:
World Gratitude Day: Memorial Union.
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Students will be able to show the things they are thankful for by writing a short note on the hanging wall. Students will also have the opportunity to write a note to a person they are thankful for. GLP will send out all letters to individuals who live on campus.
Tuesday, Sept. 25:
National Voter Registration Day: Memorial Union.
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – FHSU’s ADP will have a booth set up to provide students the opportunity to register to vote.
Wednesday, Sept. 26:
Voter Registration Drive: Memorial Union.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – FHSU’s ADP will have a booth set up to provide students the opportunity to register to vote.
