INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Fort Hays State junior golfer Hannah Perkins has been selected to play as an individual at the 2018 NCAA Division II Central Regional, announced Monday (April 30) by the NCAA. This year’s regional will take place at Missouri Bluffs Golf Course, a 6,064-yard par-71 course in St. Charles, Mo. The 54-hole tournament is slated for May 7-9. She is the first Tiger in program history to qualify for the Central Regional multiple times. Perkins played at the same course in the fall where she finished in a tie for 21st individually after firing rounds of 77 and 80.
Perkins qualified as the second individual in the Central Region after posting a stroke average of 78.8 over 19 rounds this season. The top 12 teams and the top six individuals not on those team qualify to participate in each of the four regional tournaments. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, played at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas (May 16-19).
The Wichita native makes her second-consecutive trip to the regional tournament. Perkins was the top finisher for the Tigers in all nine tournaments this season. She posted four top-10 finishes on the year as well as a top-5 finish at the Rockhurst Golf Tournament (March 26-27).
Perkins was named MIAA Women’s Golfer of the week twice when she shared the honor with Shi Qing Ong of Missouri Western for his efforts at the Central Region Preview (Sept 5-6) and after her performance from the Rockhurst Invitational.
