After one week off from competition for Spring Break, the Fort Hays State track and field teams aim their focus to their lone home meet of the season. The Tigers will host the second annual Alex Francis Classic on Friday. Field events will commence at noon, with track events kicking off at 3 p.m.
This meet, named after the great FHSU cross country and track and field coach, will be held at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex and Alex Francis Track. This is just the second outdoor meet of the 2018 season for the Tigers, after competing in the Emporia State Spring Invite two weeks ago.
For the women, Madison Wolf already has an automatic qualifying mark to her name as she owns the top Division II javelin throw so far at 167 feet, 3 inches. Alexcia Deutscher is right behind as she earned a provisional in the same event at 157 feet, 9 inches. Rohey Singhateh claims the final provisional so far for the women as she produced a 19 feet, 2 inch long jump at Emporia.
The men have claimed four provisional marks on the season. Malcom Gardner capped a 200-meter run with a time of 20.95 for a provisional, while three more provisional were set by field athletes. Cameron Fouts hit a provisional at 200 feet, 7 inches in the javelin, while Sam Dreiling captured the pole vault with 16 feet, 4 inches. Finally, Kolt Newell rounds out the provisional qualifications at this point for the Tigers with a 6 foot, 9 inch high jump mark.
