Cold and flu season is upon us and the US is suffering one of its worst flu epidemics in quite some time. Not only can this nasty bug cause you sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aches, fevers and much more, in some cases it can even be deadly. This is why it’s important to protect yourself and others from getting sick this season by following these simple tips.

Get a Flu Vaccine
Nobody likes getting shots, but it is a very important and effective way to thwart the flu virus before it even gets to you. The flu vaccine is specially formulated each year to train your body to fight off the most likely strains of that year. While not 100% effective, it may give your body a fighting chance and even prevent you from spreading the virus to others.

Stay at Home if You Are Sick
The last thing you need while sick is to worry about dredging through classes and struggling at work. Not only are you putting a strain on yourself, possibly making your condition worse, you are also exposing others to whatever infection you may have. Do yourself and others a favor and stay home when you feel sick. (This may be a good opportunity to catch up on your favorite show.)

Cover Your Cough
When you feel the need to cough or sneeze, make sure to cover your face. It doesn’t matter whether you’re out in public or at home, nobody wants to breathe in your germs! It’s also best to do so into your sleeve or a tissue if possible. Coughing into your hand just covers them with germs that you may spread when touching everyday objects.
