Sponsored by the Fort Hays State University Collegiate DECA and Society of Human Resource Management, Smoky Hill Country Club hosted the annual Etiquette Dinner on November 28 at 6 pm. The four-course dinner event invited FHSU students to learn proper etiquette during a business dinner, which could substitute a common one-on-one or panel interview. FHSU faculty and professional community members were also in attendance at the dinner.
Gail Kuehl, co-owner of the McDonald’s in Hays, Russell, and WaKeeney, led those in attendance through each course on which utensil should be utilized as well as social etiquette during such an event.
“We filled the banquet room, so I know we did really well this year,” said FHSU DECA Chapter President Micah Fabarez. “I thoroughly enjoyed learning the proper etiquette for different situations that might occur in a professional or formal dinner setting.”
Though the room was full quite full throughout the night, how does this compare to last year’s event? Was there any growth or loss?
FHSU DECA Chapter Advisor Scott Jones stated, “We doubled participation (student, industry partners, and faculty) from last year! Each year we learn more about what to do (and not do).”
The four-course dinner will be held about the same time in 2018 with a new guest speaker to walk the attendees through the etiquette process.
