FHSU Women’s Basketball Begins Season with Blowout Victory over Upper Iowa

In dominant fashion, the Fort Hays State University women’s basketball team began the season in Fayette, Iowa with a 66-32 win over the Upper Iowa Peacocks.

After beginning the game on an 8-0 run, the Tigers never looked back. FHSU never trailed Friday night and also led by as many as 38 points. Fort Hays struggled from the field, shooting 37.5%. Luckily for the Tigers, the Peacocks finished 11 of 52 from the field, including 4 of 21 on three-point attempts.

The Tiger defense was firing on all cylinders, producing 13 steals and four blocks. Turnovers also proved to be a major difference. FHSU forced 24 turnovers which led to 24 points.

Leading the Tiger attack was Kacey Kennett and Tatyana Legette, who each had 15 points. Emma Stroyan led all players with eight rebounds, Belle Barbieri and Legette both had seven.

FHSU will look to go 2-0 in Fayette, Iowa, when they face Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow at 2:30 P.M.
