RHA Hosts Safe Trick-or-Treat

BY LEXI GROSS

Halloween came a little early this year for some trick or treaters. FHSU’s Residence Hall Association hosted the annual Safe Trick or Treat at the new residence hall, Victor E. Village on Thursday, October 26th. Children from across the community of Hays were encouraged to dress up in their costumes and trick or treat throughout the building to get some candy early!

FHSU students that wished to participate in this event had to sign up in advance and were given 100 pieces of candy and a pumpkin to put on their door to let trick or treaters know where to stop. Residents and Hall Council were also encouraged to dress up, as many of them did as well as decorate their floors. Throughout the building, each hall council had the chance to hold activities in a lounge-like pumpkin painting or games. The RHA also had a booth set up in the lobby and sold cotton candy and popcorn for only fifty cents to anyone with a sweet tooth craving. Needless to say, the trick or treaters would not be bored that night.

“The goal of Safe Trick or Treat is an activity where children from the community can come in and have a safe environment to go trick or treating,” says RHA Treasurer MacKinzie Foster. “This is to also help bridge the gap between the students of Fort Hays and the community itself.”

Previously, Safe Trick or Treat had been hosted in the McMindes residents hall but this year with it being Victor E. Village’s first year opened the RHA decided to show off the new building and welcome the community into it.

The night was filled with a lot of costumes, candy and many Trick or Treaters that came to the door of Victor E. Village. It was a great way for Fort Hays to kick off the Halloween weekend!
