BY NATHAN JOHNS

The Student Government Association held a meeting on Thursday, October 26th at 7 PM. There were 21 senators in attendance of this meeting.

The meeting opened with guest speaker Dr. Tim Crowley talking about the Office of the Provost’s “Journey to Distinction: Strategic Plan.” This plan includes keys points towards bettering education for Fort Hays State University students both on campus and around the world. Some of these points included: Academic Excellence, Student Success, Strategic Growth, Quality Infrastructure & Resources, and Community & Global Engagement. Dr. Crowley urges anyone with input go to the Office of the Provost website and leave an anonymous suggestion for the plan.

Senator Colclazier mentioned that the Student Government Association still has seats that need to be filled. Currently, there are 6 seats available to Health and Behavioral Science majors, 4 available to science, technology, and mathematics majors, and 2 at large. Those interested in applying should visit the SGA website to fill out an application form (Located at the end of this article).

The allocations committee also held elections during this meeting. This committee will determine which student organizations will receive allocations and the amount of these allocations. The seven senators elected for the committee are Senator Lindsey, Senator Musgrove, Senator Roscoe, Senator Turley, Senator Schibi, Senator Colclazier, and Senator Franek.

One bill was voted on during this session. Bill 17/F104, regarding the election of Aaron Simpson for a senator position, passed with a unanimous vote. Prior organizations newly elected Senator Simpson has been involved in include Black Student Union, NRHH, and Empowerment. He believes that his previous experience in organizations such as NRHH will allow him to scale up these skills and be a good Senator for the whole campus of FHSU.

SGA will hold their next meeting on Thursday, November 2nd at 7 PM in the Memorial Union Black and Gold Room.
