Featured DJ: Foxx Jackson

Who are you?
Foxx Jackson, co-host of Death Häus and the Screening Room. Both of which you can catch at 6:30 Tuesdays and 6:00 Fridays respectively. I’m a graduate student and this is my 3rd year DJ’ing on the station.

What is the theme of your radio show?
Death Häus is a heavy metal showcase focusing on metal, usually Death Metal, that is often ignored by mainstream radio. The Screening Room is a movie review show focusing on both current major motion pictures and classic films we feel deserve to be critically analyzed and promoted on the radio, for better or for worse.

What gave you the idea for your show name and DJ name?
Death Häus is named for “Death” metal and the Häus for being in Hays, KS, a very German town. For my DJ name, Foxx is Fox Mulder in X-Files and Jackson for my favorite DJ, Wolfman Jack.

What interested you in being apart of college radio?
Being a media major, broadcast was an important part of my studies and radio allowed me to explore my passion for music while developing broadcast experience.

What is your favorite part about college radio?
The freedom we have to create our own shows and choose our content with few restrictions. Also, the variety KFHS has, it’s a diverse unique community.

Why should people listen to your show?
Heavy Metal was a major force in the music industry during the 80’s and 90’s and while it isn’t dead, its popularity has sadly declined. Despite popular belief, Metal has a multitude of subgenres and unique sounds. There’s something in this genre for everyone and our goal at Death Häus is to assist music lovers in finding the Metal that’s right for them.

Who is your favorite band/artist?
That’s a tough question, at this moment it’s probably The Sword, a hard rock band from Texas, or Amon Amarth, a Viking Death Metal band from Norway.

What is your favorite song?
“Semi-Charmed Life” by Third-Eye Blind

What do you Netflix?
Bojack Horseman, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and documentaries about literally anything.

What is your least favorite song and why?
“Asking for It” by Shinedown. I think it’s an arrogant and hypocritical song about being socially aware and in the band’s words “not being a jerk.” However, based on their other music and interviews it seems that Shinedown considers themselves “tough guy Metal” similar to Pantera and Sepultura, which I don’t personally find to be the case. It’s really just not a great representation of the genre that sadly gets exponentially more airtime than other, more positive, music.

What is your least favorite Disney movie and why?
Am I allowed to say Star Wars Episode 7? Sure it looks great, but really they just rebooted ep. 4, it’s like 99% the exact same story. Also, Kylo Ren is the worst Sith Lord in the history of the Sith, it’s shameful.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? (only basic people say flying)
It would be cool to control the weather. Then it would always be cloudy and never over 80 degrees. I really don’t like Summer…
