The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team is still searching for their first victory of the season after losing in dramatic fashion late Thursday night. The Tigers traveled to Seattle, Washington to face Seattle Pacific. After each team scored early goals, the match remained tied at one. At the end of regulation, both teams failed to break the tie. In overtime, Seattle Pacific became the aggressor. FHSU was out-shot 17-6 on the night. In the final minute of double overtime, the Falcons were finally able to capitalize on offense and break the tie. Fort Hays was defeated 2-1. The Tigers will continue to hunt for their first win of the season on Saturday, in Bellingham, Washington against Western Washington. FHSU will return home next Friday when they host Southwest Baptist in the MIAA opener.
The women’s soccer team was also in action Thursday night. After opening the season with a 2-0-2 record, the Fort Hays State women’s soccer team was defeated for the first time when they traveled to Kearney, Nebraska to take on UNK. Entering Thursday, FHSU had outscored opponents 8-0 in four games, including a 6-0 victory against Southwest Minnesota State in the season opener. On Thursday, FHSU was shutout for the third straight game. The Lady Tigers also went into overtime for the third straight match. UNK improved to 3-1-1 on the season. FHSU will be in action again on Sunday in Emporia against ESU.
