KAMS accepts new students

Thirty-one students have been accepted for the fifth allotment of students in the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science on the FHSU campus. Established in 2006, KAMS is a program that provides high school juniors and seniors with the experience of collegiate learning. In addition to attending classes with college-level instruction, students will complete research supervised by Ph.D faculty, engage in civic leadership opportunities, complete co-curricular activities and live on campus in a residential environment that helps prepare them for college.

In order to be considered eligible, students must have completed at least two years of high school earning special honors in science or math. Those applying for acceptance must also be proficient in other areas including personal values and interests, commitment to their school and extracurricular activities, as well as distinction in clubs or other academic achievements.

The chosen students represent a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds, hailing from all areas of Kansas as well as South Korea and China. This class includes six international students. After completion of the KAMS program, each member will earn a standard high school diploma as well as 68 hours of college credit from FHSU.
