HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State volleyball team will hold its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Wednesday (Aug. 23) at 7 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. Fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2017 Tiger squad in action when they go head-to-head in an intrasquad scrimmage.
Head coach Kurt Kohler enters his ninth season at the helm in 2017 after climbing into second all-time in coaching victories at FHSU last year. The Tigers turned in a 25-9 record last season, matching the second-most wins in a season during the program’s NCAA Divison II history (since 1992). FHSU finished in a tie for fourth in the MIAA a year ago, its best finish since joining the league in 2006. The Tigers return one All-MIAA performer in Callie Christensen, the league leader in blocks in 2016 (149).
Kohler’s squad will spend the first three weeks of the regular season on the road, so this is the only opportunity for fans to see the Tigers play inside the Coliseum until September 22 when they open their home schedule against Emporia State. The Tigers are set to ring in the new campaign at the Country Inn & Suites Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sept. 1-2.
