TOPEKA, Kan. – Fort Hays State remains in search of its first MIAA win of the season after an 8-1 loss at Washburn on Saturday (Mar. 18). Macy Moyers was the only Tiger to record a win on the day in singles play. FHSU moved to 8-6 overall, 0-4 in the MIAA, while Washburn went to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Washburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the dual by breezing through doubles play. The most resistance came from the No. 2 team of Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Moyers, who fell 8-3. Washburn’s No. 1 team of Hill and Engelbrecht are ranked No. 12 in the nation.
All singles matches were determined in straight sets. Moyers won the No. 4 match by scores of 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3, Lauren Lindell put up a total of six points over two sets. Washburn’s top two singles players are regionally ranked, while its No. 1 player Madeline Hill is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The Tigers return to the courts next week with conference matches at home against Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday and Missouri Western on Friday.
