BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fort Hays State’s Brett Meyer qualified for the 800-meter finals at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on Thursday (Mar. 9). Meyer ran a time of 1:52.43 to finish inside the top eight and secure a spot in Saturday’s final at 4:10 pm.

Meyer ran in the first of three prelim heats. He finished third in his heat, but luckily he was in the fastest heat of the three. The top two runners from each heat automatically qualified for Saturday, leaving Meyer to grab one of the final two spots based on all times ran outside the top two of each heat. Meyer had the fastest time of any third-place finisher in the three heats. But with two of the heats being a bit slower overall, Meyer actually had the fourth-fastest time for the day, despite being tabbed seventh in the standings. On paper, Meyer’s time would have won the second heat and would have placed second in the third heat.

Meyer will be one of eight runners to compete in the finals on Saturday.
