The Tiger softball team looks to snap a three-game losing skid when it plays a doubleheader at Newman University on Tuesday (Mar. 7). Fort Hays State enters with a record of 5-11 overall, while Newman is 3-18 overall. The games are set to begin at 2 pm.
Fort Hays State was on a three-game win streak before falling in all three games of a series at Oklahoma Christian this past weekend. The Tigers are still in search of their first true road win of the season, now 0-4 in away games. The Tigers are 3-7 in neutral contests. As a whole, the Tigers are hitting .270 for the season and have a team ERA of 5.10.
Newman snapped a 13-game losing streak this past Saturday by winning the first game of a doubleheader against William Jewell. But the Jets dropped the nightcap and have now lost 14 of their last 15 contests. As a team, the Jets are batting .242 and have a team ERA of 4.59.
Veronica Knittig leads the Tigers in hitting at .396 for the season. She has five doubles and a home run, while driving in a team-high 15 runs. Bailey Kennedy has also reached double figures in the RBI column, now with 10 for the season. Hailey Chapman leads the pitching staff with a 3.89 ERA and 4-6 record.
