LAWRENCE, Kan. – A few members of the Fort Hays State track and field teams competed at the Bill Easton Classic, held on Friday (Jan. 6) at Kansas University. The biggest performance came from Brett Meyer in the men’s 800-meters, putting up the second-fastest time in the nation so far after the time was converted due to track size.
Meyer crossed the line in 1:54.15 to place second in the event, just a fraction off the winning time of 1:54 flat by Travis Hodge of Kansas State. Meyer’s time was converted down to 1:52.54 due to the track size at Anschutz Sports Pavilion. Thomas Staines of CSU-Pueblo is the national Division II leader at 1:52.39 after his time was also converted at another meet. Meyer’s time is an NCAA provisional mark.
Also competing for the Tigers were Sam Dreiling, TJ Dozier, and Jacob Thomas on the men’s side, while Kelly Wycoff and Selam Ball competed in women’s action. Dreiling was just shy of his top provisional mark of the season in the pole vault, leaping 15’10.5″. That’s just shy of his best mark this year of 15’11.25″ that has him ranked 11th in the nation on the performance list.
