The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team will wrap up its exhibition schedule Thursday (Nov. 3) when it travels to Omaha, Neb. for a preseason contest against Creighton. First tip is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from D.J. Sokol Arena on the campus of Creighton University.
For fans unable to make the trip, Gerard Wellbrock will be on the call on 103.3 FM in Hays.
The Tigers opened the exhibition season over the weekend when they lost to Kansas, 98-71. The team trailed by just six at halftime. Freshman Taylor Rolfs led the team with 12 points, while Madison Mittie and Tatyana Legette added 10 points each. Legette grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with Mittie and Carly Heim posting six boards each.
It will be the first official contest for the Bluejays this season, who return all five starters from last season. 15th-year head coach Jim Flanery’s team was picked to win the BIG EAST this season after finishing 17-18 overall last year.
Three Tigers will be making their second trip to Omaha after facing off with Creighton in the first game of their collegiate career. FHSU played the Bluejays in an exhibition contest to open the 2013-14 season (11/4/13). Taylor Chandler started the contest, grabbing two boards and making one steal. Jill Faxon and Nikola Kacperska each scored two points off the bench, with Faxon adding three boards and Kacperska contributing two assists.
The Tigers will open the regular season next weekend when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to face off with Upper Iowa on Friday, November 11 at 1 p.m.
