Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third at MIAA Championships, Bonine Finishes Second

ELSAH, Ill. – Led by a second-place finish from junior Shea Bonine, the Fort Hays State women’s cross country team finished third at the MIAA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning (Oct. 22). A total of four Tiger runners earning All-MIAA status, finishing in the top 20. Lindenwood University hosted the event at Principia College’s North Farm Course. A total of 91 runners took part in the six-kilometer race.

The Tigers earned their third-place finish with 75 points, just three behind runner-up Pittsburg State. Bonine traversed the course in 21:48.86 to finish in second place, earning All-MIAA first team honors. Micki Krzesinski, Chelsea Jackson and Sophie Dalmasso all earned All-MIAA honorable mention accolades. Krzesinski finished in 15th with a time of 22:32.15 with Jackson following behind in 17th (22:43.69). Dalmasso crossed the line in 19th, running in 22:52.24. Yessenia Gonzales rounded out the scoring for the Tigers in 22nd with a time of 23:04.79.

Southwest Baptist earned the team title for the second year in a row, while Nebraska-Kearney’s Morgan Benesch picked up the individual title with a winning time of 21:02.06.

The Tigers will return to the course in two weeks when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday, November 5, hosted by Augustana University.
