HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis wrapped up the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 9-0 shutout of Hastings College on Saturday (Oct. 8). The Tigers improved to 5-2 overall.
The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams for FHSU cruised, but the No. 2 team had to make a big comeback to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. The No. 1 team of Lauren Lindell and Natalie Lubbers won 8-2 and the No. 3 team of Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Taylor Noel won 8-3. Down 6-1, the No. 2 team of Jessica Johnson and Nicole Lubbers rallied back to win 8-6.
The Tigers blitzed through singles matches in straight sets, not allowing any more than three games to opponents in sets. Jimenez-Lendinez won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, and Lindell won at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 3 Natalie Lubbers won 6-1, 6-1, and at No. 4 Johnson won 6-0, 6-1. Nicole Lubbers took her match 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Haley Weidemann rounded out the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Tigers resume their season in the spring on March 1 at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina, Kan.
