OKLAHOMA CITY – Fort Hays State had three tennis players compete at the ITA Fall Central Regional on Saturday (Oct. 1). The doubles team of Lauren Lindell and Natalie Lubbers moved on to the second day of competition by winning their first match of the tournament.
Laura Jimenez-Lendinez, Lindell, and Lubbers all competed in singles for the Tigers on the first day. Jimenez-Lendinez was the only one to record a win, taking her opening match 6-3, 6-3 over Berkley Darr of Augustana. She then fell to the region’s 14th ranked player, Lucia Diaz of Southwest Baptist, 6-0. 7-5.
Lindell fell in her opening singles match against the No. 5 ranked player in the region, Anna Buikian of Southeastern Oklahoma State, 6-0, 7-5. She then also lost to Isabella Sella of Upper Iowa 6-4, 6-4.
Lubbers also went 0-2 in singles, but went to three sets in each match. She fell to Alex Bowers of Oklahoma Baptist by scores of 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. She then fell to Taylor Jackson of Augustana 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Lindell and Lubbers pulled out a close 8-6 win in their first doubles match of the tournament over Sella and Soman of Upper Iowa. They will face the No. 8 ranked team in the region on Sunday in Central Oklahoma’s Alli Hodges and Kirtana Bhat.
